Truly enjoying a moment...

Last night A really wanted me to play with her. Unfortunately I have my review coming up with my boss on Monday and had to get some info ready for that meeting. (I know what you're thinking - be a good mom and play and work on work later. Well this weekend is jam packed with a soccer tourney, so I know I won't have time to do it. That leaves Thurs and Fri to get ready for a Mon morning review.) I felt this big as I explained why I couldn't play. We also talked about the fact that while I work, I work part time. That means that I do have to do some work. But I could choose to work full time - putting in as many hours as my dear hubby does. I choose to work part time so I can be home for the kids. She agreed that she liked it better for me to be at home, even if I have to work sometimes. (For the record - We did play a bit while she was getting ready for bed. I'm not a totally unfun mom!)

Anyway, the two of us were talking and I was telling her it was almost bedtime. While I'm telling her this, I yawn. (As any mom will tell you, I'm tired almost all the time.) Here's the jist of our conversation:

  • A - "You should go to bed when we do. You're tired."

  • J - "I'd like to, but I have to stay awake so I can pick up S from work at 10."

  • A - "Wow! That's late. Then you can go to bed when he's home."

  • J - "No, then I have to stay up to make sure he goes to bed when he's supposed to."

  • A - "So what time can you go to bed?"

  • J - "About 11:30."

  • A - "You go to bed at 11:30 and get up with us at 6? No wonder you're so tired all the time!"

She'll never realize how much it meant at that moment to have one of my children truly understand (for the brief moment that it was) why mom is tired and the fact that mom does a lot. Hopefully when she gets a little older with her own children, she'll remember that HER mom did a lot and was tired - and it'll help her feel better when she's doing a lot and is tired.

(PS - In the pic, she's showing off the sleeping bag she made for her Webkinz dog. Thought you'd enjoy seeing this!)
