The soccer season is over for us. C played in her final game Friday night. They tied 1-1. Their overall record (including the Frosh tourney they won) is 6-2-4. Not bad for a team comprised of 2 7th graders, 6 8th graders and the rest freshmen. Several of the teams they played were all true freshmen, which makes their record even more impressive.
C played a little bit of the field in the first half of each game. She was goalie the entire second half of each game. I'm extremely proud to say not one goal got by her the entire season!!!! She has some great defenders who do a great job helping her, along with her own agressive style (meaning she has no fear of getting hurt - she goes after the ball and if she gets kicked or something which has happened - so be it).
The school's coach has some great shots, but I can't get copies of them until after the season. Once I do, I'll post the pics. Some great ones of her jumping above the fray to catch a ball, covering the ball while being kicked (because the player was trying to kick the ball), and her making some great kicks (she can kick to mid-field and beyond).
While I was one of the most vocal opponents to her playing up, it was a good decision to make. She truly blossomed while on this team and has really matured in a good way. We'll attend games this week as the JV and Varsity play. Senior night will be fun - there's a senior who will be playing for UC next year and another playing for UL.
C has yet to decide where to go to high school, but this experience has been a positive one for her. I'm hopeful it is a sign of things to come!!
Enjoy these pics. I blew them up so hopefully it's easier to see. They're from the tournament they played in over Labor Day weekend.
