So we're not officially finished with soccer (C has been attending games this week to show her support and hang with friends), and we've already started basketball practice.
The first one was last night. I really admire the basketball committee at our school. There were 13 girls who signed up to play. A team must have at least 9. So there weren't enough for 2 teams, so.....
They have one LARGE team. And the result is a mandatory playing time per game of 1.5 minutes.
Yes, you read that correctly. As long as a player gets 1.5 minutes per game, it's ok. It's normally 3 minutes per game.
It was a lower guarenteed playing time, or cuts of 2-3 girls. They didn't want to cut, hence the lower time.
I like the decision even though I may only see my daughter on the court for 1.5 minutes. I like the girls on her team and am not sure how many will have the opportunity to play in high school. So they have one more year to enjoy playing a game they like.
Good for the committee, the coaches and girls. Parents have to sign a paper agreeing to this. I have no problem with it.
PS - For those of you with younger children.... THIS is some of what you have to look forward to!!
:-)

*I* have a problem with it! :) One and a half minutes playing time? It's not worth brushing the hair and going out the door. But then again, neither is 3 minutes. I don't think I could do it! But there is the positive side (which you obviously found!)... the team friendships these girls will forge will have lasting memories!
