Way to go!!

I'm so proud of my dear daughter C. This year she earned/we decided she was ready for the opportunity to play soccer for her local high school feeder school. Since becoming involved with the team (we were already familiar with 2 of the coaches and a few of the players and parents), she has simply blossomed and taken her game to the next level. She is the backup goalie and has some playing time on the field.

This weekend the team played in the only tourney that freshmen can: The Freshmen Tournament (nice name, huh??). Over this past weekend she played well in the field, almost scoring 2 goals (a little straighter shots and they would have been in), started the 3rd game on the front line AND played goalie for 1/2 of each game.

The first game would be one of the toughest: playing the local all girls school (who only has freshmen on the team, unlike ours). But our girls played their hearts out and tied 0-0. The second game was much more eventful, with our girls winning 4-1. That win placed us first in our bracket and guarenteed us a spot to play in the semi-finals. The semi-final game was against our archrival school (kind of cool) where girls had friends on both teams. Our girls didn't play their best, but we won 2-1. That got us to the finals.

The final game was one of the hardest. Our girls were tired and a half step behind the other team. Our starting goalie was BUSY, but played great and held them off. One of the other team's players pushed one of our players to the ground inside the goal box - which mean we got a penalty kick. One on one. I HATE penalty kicks. Always have. I hate that it comes down to one kicker and one goalie. But our girl got it past her for a goal. That, combined with our coaches' halftime talk, rallied our girls. C was the second half goalie and held them off with some great saves. (Even the announcer was complimenting her play. Kinda cool to hear!!) And we won!!! It was awesome. I was pumped and C even more so. Dear hubby was there for the first two games, but had to miss for a previously scheduled family reunion activity. He was so bummed about missing such a great game, we are now the proud owners of a camcorder!! :-D

The girls were thrilled to say the least!!! The three team captains RAN out on the field to collect their trophy, but they were sent back to their team to wait for the official presentation. :-D

Enjoy this pic - this is from the team's website. I took a few, but I left the camera at my dear sis-in-law's where the reunion event was taking place.

This is from the team's website (names have been altered...): That was an awesome weekend of soccer ladies in the freshman tournament. That was a very nice anniversary present. The freshmen finished off an undefeated weekend with a 1-0 win on a penalty shot goal by sweeper RH. That followed wins over SK and CC and a tie to ND. The future of B soccer looks very bright for years to come.
