I was playing around on Disney's website a few weeks ago, checking things out, when low and behold I see an ad for the Hannah Montana 3D movie. Both girls LOVE Hannah Montana (especially her songs), so I thought I'd be "cool mom" and ask if they wanted to go. Honestly I didn't expect C, my oldest dear daughter, to want to go. Imagine my surprise when both A and C said yes.
So I figured we'd make a night of it. I'd let each of the girls bring a friend and we'd do dinner and shopping and then an overnight. The girls were excited about it and my mom said she'd come along for the fun.
Poor A had drama trying to get a friend. The first friend she asked said no she didn't like Hannah Montana. So she asked another friend. THAT friend had a basketball game and would see the movie, leave and meet us back at the house. There was no way that was going to work since we had plans set up for the whole night and A would be left without a friend. So THAT friend couldn't go. In the meantime, the FIRST friend said she would go, but A had already asked the other girl. The first friend got mad, but it worked out since the other friend couldn't go. Ahhh - the beauty of 4th grade girls!! ;-) C had to ask a few people but found a friend who would go. Since the friend had girl scouts after school, she would meet us.

We were lucky enough to get tickets for opening day. We got there early to make sure that we could get our tickets without waiting in long lines (a smart thing given how many little girls I saw there). We browsed through a shop and ate a cookie. Then my dear mom took the two little ones and went to get in line (45 minute BEFORE showtime) so that we could get decent seats. C and I waited for her friend. (For the record, when we got out of our showing, there was already a long line waiting to get in to the next show.)
Mom called me and said there was already a long line and it was a good thing they got there early. A few minutes later she called and said they were moving... then a few minutes later that they had 6 seats together in the last row of the theater. C's friend got there with 10 minutes to spare before the movie started. They ran (I walked very fast - I'm old and a tad out of shape) and got there with 5 minutes to spare.
I haven't been to a movie in a LONG time. Of course there were many previews, all geared toward kids. At one point we were instructed to put on our 3D glasses - which excited the little girls in the audience - only to have to sit through 2 more previews. I think the previews were the same length as half the movie!
The movie itself was ok. The little girls certainly enjoyed it, the bigger ones mildly enjoyed it. You got to see some of the stage stuff, some backstage stuff, some preparing for the tour stuff and one scene with Miley and her dad (Achy Breaky Billy Ray Cyrus for those whose kids aren't into this) singing a song about her grandfather. It starts off with Hannah Montana, then the Jonas Brothers join her, then she comes back as Miley Cyrus.
(Again for those who may not know, Miley has dark brown hair, but when she's Hannah Montana, she wears a long blonde wig. Hannah Montana is a Disney Channel show about a girl who wants the Best of Both Worlds: to be a normal girl and attend school (Miley) and to be the pop star that she is "Hannah Montana.")
I will say this: the 80's are BACK!!!! All the costumes were very 80's, from the colors to the styles. Miley even wore one glove for part of the show. Her stage setup featured a long runway into the audience. For your 80's folks: think of the last dance sequence from Dirty Dancing: Johnny and Baby dance on stage, then Johnny jumps off the stage and dances up the center aisle with her fellow dancers dancing behind him. Now just put Miley in Johnny's place and her dancers in place of his and you have the same effect in the show. It was too funny to realize how much they took from the 80's!!

The girls liked the movie, but were disappointed they didn't hear her sing more songs. There were a couple of BIG songs they wanted to hear, including her duet with Billy Ray, but it wasn't there. Oh well. Guess they had to save something for the dvd that will no doubt be coming out after the movie completes its run.
The rest of the night was fun: dinner, shopping, dessert, sleepover. It was a nice night, it was great my mom could share it with us, and I'm just glad the girls had a special night.
