I can't believe I did that!

Yesterday was one of those days... you know the kind where the range goes from extreme highs to extreme lows.

It started off great - I had lunch with two dear friends who I haven't seen in months. For the first time in a while I beat them to the restaurant, but by silly circumstances, we sat apart for almost 20 minutes before realizing we were all there. Despite this, we had a wonderful time.

Then it was time to get kids situated after school. Jr. high group met last night and A went with S and his girlfriend to NKU's basketball game.

I was a bit stressed as I ran to get dinner, money for S and C's friends for the meeting and decided I needed to stop and get gas. I was running low and wasn't sure what the weather was going to be and I wanted to be prepared.

I filled up the van (a new one for us - it holds 20 gallons but we typically fill it at 1/2 full so it doesn't cost as much as one time) and sat inside and watched the numbers climb higher.

And higher...

And higher...

I knew I was low but didn't think I was that low.

When I saw 20 gallons I knew something was wrong.

VERY wrong.

I go out and see, hear and smell gas flowing from my van. The pump had failed to shut off when the tank was full.

That has NEVER happened to me. I'm pretty environmentally conscience and try to make sure I recycle all I can, not waste gas by driving needlessly, and generally do what I can to make the world a little greener.

I was appalled. I felt awful. I was totally embarrassed. I couldn't believe the stream of gas that flowed down the parking lot. I told the attendant right away and apologized profusely. He apologized to me because it hadn't shut off.
Guess I'll be more careful and will stand in the cold while I pump gas.

Beautiful van! congratulations! I must not be "environmental" enough. Who cares about the gas when all I see are dollars running down the parking lot! And it's just like you to apologize! Always thinking of others!
