How things change...

It's been a long couple of weeks at our house. We journeyed down south to say farewell to S's mom and give him whatever support we could. It was so sad. He's coping and trying to get back into a routine. Hopefully he'll hang in there and make it through the last few weeks of school. It'll be tough but I know he can do it. He made it through the week at school and survived the ACT this morning. He's going back south to celebrate his step-dad's birthday - a nice treat for them both right now. The next big thing for S will be prom - can't wait!!!

C is back into the soccer groove 3 nights a week and still helps at our parish religious education program on Wednesday nights. She also took the ACT (as part of a special program for 7th graders). She completed all the tests, which to me is a tremendous accomplishment. For her it's not about the score but the experience. Scores are just a bonus!! She also recently received a servers' award for serving at Mass. She loved wearing the blue award while serving.

She and A recently served friends' wedding. Both did a great job (although most of A's job was to "look cute" since she had never served before). They had a blast at the reception later, dancing the night away to music from the 80s (well there were a few songs from their generation like Soilder Boy - not sure that's the "right" way to spell it!!)

A performed in her musical show on Saturday - the last Super Saturday. She's very bummed about it. She had a ball, loved the teacher (so much so that she made a card and thanked her for inspiring her students with her love of acting and then had all the kids sign it). She did an excellent job, remembered all her lines and all her blocking. The teacher said they put the show together in about 5 hours (with the rest of time spent learning theatre experiences/techniques/etc.). She was totally thrilled with the legos her aunt (my dear sis-in-law) gave her for her birthday.

Darling hubby has been home for the last 2 weeks. He was supposed to be in Germany for the first one, but got to the gate in time for them to close it. :-( Then he flew to his normal office, but drove home after worrying too much about S and us. This week he stayed home to help with S's transition back to "normal" life (although not much will seem normal for S for a long time). It's been great having him around.

Me? Well.... I'm now subbing at the girls' school 5 days a week until they tell me they don't need me. So that full time job, plus my regular part time job is winding down, and with everything going on with the 3 kids - I'm a bit tired and overwhelmed. I'm glad that I'm able to help out at school when they need it. It's one of the reasons I stayed home from working full time. I've had tremendous support from both my family and the school staff. The students are fun and I've worked with 1/2 of them through Confirmation and the other 1/2 are C's classmates (which means I'm teaching her as well!). So it's an interesting challenge, but one I'm up for.

So if blog posts are even SLOWER than normal, please forgive me in advance. Trying to "do it all" is tough (as I know from past experience). Here life is kicked up a notch - and pray that we'll have the BAM to get it all done!!

Wow - things are crazy right now. I'm so sorry to hear about S's mom - he's in my thoughts. Hope to hear from you soon.
