The first year we went to Hilton Head Island with my parents I read a magazine that included a story on FlyLady. Marla Cilley used to be scatterbrained and cluttered but somehow figured out that if she decluttered her possessions, things might get easier to handle. Not only did she declutter her possessions, she decluttered her life - getting rid of things that weren't really important and necessary to her life. She rearranged her priorities and now has this awesome website (www.flylady.net) that totally helps flighty people like me focus a little more. Thanks to her I've been able to get my house in better order. It could still use some serious decluttering but it's a thousand times better than it used to be. Plus, I'm able to keep track of things around the house and with my job better. I may still have my piles of things, but they're not as high and not as many. We do a lot more recycling, throw away less food and overall just seem to get more out of life. My life isn't near as stressed as it used to be.
I'm still scatterbrained on occasion (like forgetting to pick up my nephew for work, resulting in a panicked call to the manager from me begging forgiveness) and if I don't write something down in my planner it'll never happen. I've met some wonderful friends through the Flylady group. If you're struggling to keep everything together, check out Flylady and her routines. Mine aren't as "rigid" as her's are, but mine work for me and that's all that matters.
